Hmm. Have been reading, and have been thinking. Yes, Wanru. Raison d'ĂȘtre was used correctly. And I agree - soccer isn't just twenty-two men chasing a ball, it's twenty-two men chasing a ball and the Germans winning at the end...just kidding. Quoting a book of quotes. Nvm. Anyway, it isn't just twenty-two men and only one ball between them. The sheer athleticism is enough to admire. Have you ever imagined sprinting non-stop for an hour and a half almost straight? And like she says, the list goes on.

But about how religion shouldn't be compromised for soccer...I think that anything can be compromised for something that's more important. And if soccer is more important to these people than the Big Guy, well, so be it? To each his own, and leave well be. That's their choice, and most definitely not yours.

And to concur with Haikal, just saying what you did implies that you believe homosexuality to be unnatural. Is it really? If we are as God supposedly created us (I'm a fan of absurdism/atheist existensialism, so forgive my skepticism), aren't homosexuals as He created them? Give them a break here, it's not like they WANT to be ostracized. And on this note, how are you, or any of us, to presume to know what God approves of? Are we to take the most popular publication of a millenia-old institution to its word? Or has Mr. High and Mighty actually spoken to you?

And who defines what's right? Even if it is The Power(s) That Be, has anyone actually heard from Him/Them? I definitely haven't, provided He/They exist. What I am particularly irritated by is the fact that so many people let their lives and values be determined by whichever church they follow. It's just an institution. Why must we act like lemmings? Group mentality grates, sometimes. And have we ever considered what might happen if we allowed a child to grow up wild? Sure, it won't follow our societal norms, but in what way would it grow up bad? Sure, some things it might do that is considered criminal by our society, but the primary thing would be that it grew up according to its own instinct, and that its instinct is what drives it. Is basic human instinct so bad?

And now, equating homosexuality with lies and hatred. I know, I'm hawking off Haikal's post. But I cannot leave it alone. Homosexuality is something that the individual does not choose. But a person chooses to lie, and to hate. For me, a crime, or a 'bad' act, is one commited by choice. What is not a person's fault is the fault of whoever it's the fault of. If homosexuality is a crime, it is God's crime (I'm following the Christian logic of God creating us, against my own instincts of GOD DOES NOT EXIST), for He created all of us, including those "damned faggots". Is anyone aware that other than sexual orientation, homosexuals are no different from the rest of us? They become great (Oscar Wilde), they are brought low (that doctor who was caught peddling drugs). They are affected by what others think of them. They cry and shed blood right along with the rest of us. And yes, I am guessing that their blood is red too. Not purple, not green, not bright luminescent pink, but red. JUST LIKE THE REST OF US. So what if they choose to stick their dicks in other guys' asses? It's their prerogative, isn't it? They didn't choose to want to. To them, they are but fulfilling a desire placed in their heads by their natural instinct, something they cannot control. Asking them not to is like asking Iceman not to be a mutant. On the other hand, we can take into consideration a theoretical situation - a couple is broken up because some skank decides to come in between. Does the girl forgive the skank (derogatory name used for differentiation's purposes only)? I know people who would. Or does she hate the skank and plot her vengeance? Again, I know people who would (I count myself amongst those ranks). So you see, it is ultimately a choice. You can choose to forgive, or you can choose to bear a grudge. Another theoretical situation - you are regent of a kingdom, and your king is off on a kingdom-saving quest and no one knows where he is aymore. Some over-ambitious noble wants to usurp the throne, but dares not do so except in the true absence of the king; i.e. except when the king is dead. And the thing is that he has offered you a tidy sum to announce the king's death to the people so he can take over. So do you lie to the people? Or do you to the societally defined right thing? Again, your choice. And when Magneto (yes, it was Magneto) said, "They think they have a cure for us. But they are wrong. We are the cure." Even though it wasn't his choice to be a mutant, which he shouldn't have been perscuted for, it was his choice to believe in the superiority of the mutants and to wage war against the rest of the world, and it is for that reason that he is the villain of the story. NOT because he is a mutant.

So it's all about choice, isn't it, what's right and what's not? Can we truly persecute homosexuals for soemthing they did not choose to be the same way we persecute murderers for choosing to run that blade into someone else's heart? Haikal may not be taking sides, but I am. I'm pretty damned sick of society persecuting the minority and the non-conformists.
