I don't think most people cry because of social norms. I mean, we do many things to conform, but I don't think that emotion and its consequence can be faked or forced by societal factors.

As for the gay/duty thing...I think duty is a load of bull, so the hell with it, but that's just me. If you want a compromise, I say find a girl who's up for a marriage of convenience, arrange to ditch her (with her knowledge, of course) and hop off to Canada after a son pops out.

But I think what you want isn't a compromise, is it? In true romantic fashion, I'd actually say come out and tell his parents and then marry the guy, and let the girls give them male grandchildren. But practicality decrees otherwise; can the guy bear to be cut off from his family? Does he really wish to please his parents, so much so that he will give love up? And if women don't turn him on at all, it's gonna be quite pointless trying to sire a child on a girl, right?

I don't have long cos my com is dead and this is my brother's, but this puts me in mind of something else.

In Sec 4, Jan to Jun, I had an English teacher. Rich young guy living in 5th Ave who adores his SK II. I'm fairly sure he's not gay, though. He's not the only son, nor even the oldest, but still he left teaching abruptly (he loved it) to go work in his grandfather's company because the old man willed it. And he was also quite open about his plans to do as his parents wished and eventually marry a nice Catholic Teochew girl someday. It makes one wonder - why?
